Texas Top Legal Officer Takes Legal Action Against Acetaminophen Makers Over Autism Spectrum Allegations

Judicial Proceedings
Ken Paxton, who supports former President Trump seeking election to US Senate, alleged the drug companies of withholding safety concerns of Tylenol

The top legal official in Texas Paxton is taking legal action against the manufacturers of Tylenol, asserting the companies concealed alleged dangers that the medication posed to pediatric brain development.

This legal action follows four weeks after Former President Trump promoted an unproven link between consuming acetaminophen - also known as paracetamol - during pregnancy and autism in offspring.

The attorney general is suing Johnson & Johnson, which once produced the medication, the sole analgesic approved for expectant mothers, and Kenvue, which now manufacturers it.

In a official comment, he claimed they "betrayed America by making money from suffering and marketing drugs regardless of the dangers."

The company asserts there is insufficient reliable data linking Tylenol to autism.

"These companies deceived for years, intentionally threatening countless individuals to boost earnings," the attorney general, from the Republican party, stated.

Kenvue said in a statement that it was "deeply concerned by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the security of acetaminophen and the likely effects that could have on the welfare of women and children in America."

On its website, Kenvue also stated it had "continuously evaluated the relevant science and there is lacking reliable evidence that demonstrates a proven link between consuming paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Organizations acting on behalf of doctors and health professionals concur.

The leading OB-GYN organization has stated paracetamol - the main ingredient in acetaminophen - is one of the few options for women during pregnancy to address discomfort and elevated temperature, which can pose major wellness concerns if ignored.

"In multiple decades of studies on the utilization of paracetamol in pregnancy, zero credible investigations has definitively established that the usage of acetaminophen in any trimester of gestation causes brain development issues in children," the association stated.

The court filing references current declarations from the previous government in asserting the medication is potentially dangerous.

Recently, the former president generated worry from medical authorities when he advised women during pregnancy to "fight like hell" not to use acetaminophen when unwell.

Federal regulators then issued a notice that medical professionals should contemplate reducing the usage of acetaminophen, while also declaring that "a direct connection" between the medication and autism spectrum disorder in minors has not been established.

The Health Department head Kennedy, who manages the Food and Drug Administration, had vowed in April to initiate "comprehensive study program" that would determine the cause of autism in a short period.

But experts advised that identifying a sole reason of autism - thought by researchers to be the result of a intricate combination of inherited and environmental factors - would not be simple.

Autism is a form of lifelong neurodivergence and condition that affects how individuals experience and relate to the surroundings, and is recognized using doctors' observations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - aligned with the former president who is seeking federal office - claims Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson "intentionally overlooked and attempted to silence the research" around paracetamol and autism.

The case aims to force the firms "destroy any promotional materials" that claims Tylenol is safe for women during pregnancy.

The court case echoes the complaints of a group of guardians of children with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who took legal action against the producers of Tylenol in two years ago.

Judicial authorities dismissed the lawsuit, declaring investigations from the parents' expert witnesses was not conclusive.
