The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.

The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles title.

A Season of High Performance

Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Record-Breaking Achievements

Sabalenka concluded the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a historic £11m in tournament winnings.

She earned nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.

Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a higher level".

Other WTA Award Recipients

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a extended hiatus following the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
• Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.

Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
